The International Final Qualifying for the British Open was staged in both the US and England yesterday and four more Australians are now guaranteed a start at St Andrews.
At Sunningdale in Surrey, Marcus Fraser finished in a share of third to gain one of the 13 places available there and at Canoe Brook in New Jersey, Geoff Ogilvy, Scott Hend and Robert Allenby are now Scotland bound. This will be the first Open Championship for Hend and just his second major having played the US Open in 2004. Ogilvy has played in two Open Championships missing the cut on both occasions in 1999 and 2001. For Allenby this will be his 12th British Open start, his best finish being in 1997 when 10th.
Ogilvy tied for the top place over the 36 holes at Canoe Brook following on from his medallist honours at US Open qualifying three weeks ago.
Two further Australasians made it through in Japan on Sunday when Chris Campbell and David Smail gained a place via the Mizuno Open.
Twelve further places are available in the field via final qualifying at four venues in Scotland on July 9th and 10th.
