South African, Charl Schwartzel, has made it back to back victories with a runaway, six shot, win at the Joburg Open today at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club in Johannesburg today.
A superb 64 in Saturday’s third round had given Schwartzel a commanding four shot lead heading into today’s final round and although Northern Ireland’s Darren Clarke moved within two early in the round, Schwartzel added six birdies in his final 13 holes for a round of 66 to complete an emphatic victory.
Schwartzel had won last week’s Africa Open in East London and his victory today took him to the lead on the race to Dubai standings and extended his lead on the 2010 Sunshine Tour money list.
It was the 25 year old’s fifth European Tour victory and will move him well inside the all important top 50 in the world from his current 51st position.
South African Keith Horne finished with a final round of 64 to join Clarke in a share of second position while another South African, James Kamte, and England’s Danny Willett shared 4th position.
The best of the Australasians in the field and only one to make the cut was New Zealander Mark Brown who finished 64th.
The European Tour now leaves Africa for its Middle East swing where it will first play the Abu Dhabi Championship this coming week.
