Senior makes Champions Tour debut

Peter Senior plays his first Champions Tour event this week when he tees it up at the US$1.6 million Ace Group Championship in Naples in Florida.

Senior earned his right to play the lucrative Champions Tour when Medallist at last year’s Tour School, having played his way to the final via Stage One where he finished 13th.

The Queenslander, who turned 50 in July of 2009, has already performed with distinction in several European Senior Tour events. In just three tournaments late in 2009 he twice finished runner-up and once 4th in just three events earning enough money to finish 14th on the 2009 European Seniors Tour Order of Merit.

Importantly, however, that stretch of tournaments had Senior primed for his quest to earn what many consider a license to print money on the Champions Tour in the US. He not only survived the arduous test that is Q School but defeated a strong field by three shots and in the process not only secured full status for 2010 but gained a great boost of confidence as he heads for the US in one of his few campaigns there to date.

Senior played most of his career golf in Europe, Japan and Australasia, apart from the occasional major and World Golf Championship event in the US but is leaving no stone unturned in his quest to make this window of opportunity a successful one. Senior is uprooting his family (wife and three children) from their Gold Coast home and heading to Orlando where they will be based for the season in the US.

Senior missed the cut at the recent New Zealand Open but three weeks prior to that challenged for the lead at the Victorian Open at Spring Valley in Melbourne before finishing in a share of 6th.

The Ace Group Championship is played at the Quarry, a three year old facility designed by Mike Hurzan. The tournament carries a first prize of US$240,000.
