Bransdon, Barnes lead at VIctorian PGA
Australasian PGA Tour | 2010 Victorian PGA Championship | Round Three | 13 Feb 2010
The 2010 Cellarbrations Victorian PGA Championship supported by Frankston City is set to go down to the wire tomorrow following another day of explosive play at the Sandhurst Club.
After another impressive day of aggressive play around the Sandhurst Club North Course, David Bransdon and Kurt Barnes will head into tomorrow’s final round of the 2010 Cellarbrations Victorian PGA Championship with a one shot buffer over the rest of the chasing field.
Finishing the third round at 16-under, Bransdon (67, 65, 68) and Barnes (67, 67, 66) along with their third placed playing partner Anthony Brown (68, 66, 67) all alternated the lead throughout the day while the talented chasing pack fired equally impressive rounds to maintain the congested leaderboard into the final day.
Behind the leading trio, Jamie Arnold (66,72, 65), Steven Bowditch (68, 70, 65), Bronson La’Cassie (70, 67,66), Tristan Lambert (68, 70, 65), Scott Laycock (66,71,66), and Aaron Townsend (66,71,66) all head into the final day tied for fourth place while seven players sit a further shot back at 12-under in 10th.
Despite retaining a share of the lead Bransdon had a slow day on Saturday in comparison to his previous rounds, but is still confident he will be in contention come the final hole tomorrow afternoon.
“I wasn’t quite on song, but to hang in there and still be equal leader is still pretty good,” said Bransdon of his round of 4-under.
“I’ll just try and do exactly the same thing (tomorrow). I felt pretty comfortable out there today, I was more nervous on the last three holes yesterday so hopefully that will hold me in good stead for tomorrow.”
While Bransdon and Barnes are expected to put on yet another show with their drivers, for Brown (who twice chipped in on the front nine for a pair of brilliant birdies,) the final day will be all about precision.
“I don’t hit it as far as Barnesy and Bransdon,” said Brown who is chasing a breakthrough win at Sandhurst.
“I was just getting used to being 30 metres behind all day which is fine but the strength of my game is in short irons and in which was good today so I just have to do more of the same tomorrow.”
The final round of the 2010 Cellarbrations Victorian PGA Championship will continue tomorrow on the Sandhurst Club’s North Course (par 72).
The first group will tee off at 9.30 am, while the final group of Bransdon, Brown and Barnes will tee off at 11.00am. (See full list of tee times attached.)
With $110,000 up for grabs, entry is free for all spectators.
