Miyazato's run continues in Singapore

The hottest golfer currently in women’s golf, Ai Miyazato, has won the HSBC Women’s Champions event at the Tanah Merah Golf Club in Singapore, recovering from an early stumble on day four to win by two over Cristie Kerr. The world number two, three and five, Jiyai Shin, Suzann Pettersen and Yani Tseng finished in a share of third position with Song Hee Kim.

Seven days ago Miyazato won her second LPGA Tour event when she produced a brilliant final round of 63 to win the Honda LPGA event in Thailand. She was not required to produce such brilliance today although the 24 year old Japanese superstar has again beaten a world class field. The victory, her third in the last seven months on the LPGA Tour, should now move her ahead of Suzann Pettersen and into the world number three position.

Starting the final round in a share of the lead with veteran Juli Inkster, Miyazato bogeyed the opening two holes, as did her co leader, but soon recovered and by the turn she was back in a share of the lead with Kerr and Pettersen, both of whom had made excellent start to their final rounds.

Miyazato and Kerr appeared likely to fight it out over the closing few holes until Kerr, who was playing two groups ahead of the winner, bogeyed the 17th and 18th and Miyazato was afforded the luxury of a two shot advantage playing the last.

Lorena Ochoa again disappointed with her 38th place finish.

The leading Australian was again Karrie Webb who finished 19th, Katherine Hull was 19th and Lindsey Wright 21st.

The LPGA Tour will not play their next event until the Kia Classic in California on March 25th while for many in this field their next event will be the ANZ Ladies Masters, a Ladies European and Australian ALPG event, on the Gold Coast of Australia starting this coming Thursday.
