Puerto Rico Open to finish Monday

BY Bruce Young | US PGA Tour | 2010 Puerto Rico Open | Round Three | 15 Mar 2010

The badly weather affected Puerto Rico Open will go into a fifth day tomorrow with the push on for all 72 holes to be completed.

When darkness finally brought play to halt on Sunday afternoon at the Trump International in Rio Grande, Chad Collins and Kevin Streelman had a share of the lead having played 5 and 7 holes respectively of their third rounds.

Play in round three will recommence early on Monday morning with the final round expected to be completed on Monday afternoon.

Streelman and Collins lead a jam-packed leaderboard by one although 25 players are within four shots of the lead with 30 or so holes to play.

Derek Lamely, Kris Blanks and Steve Wheatcroft are in a group just one off the pace while amongst those just two behind the lead is Australian James Nitties who lost a share of his 36 hole lead but is very much in the picture.

Nitties, who put together an impressive rookie PGA Tour season in 2009, has surprisingly missed all six cuts this season but he has a great chance to turn that horror start around over the next 24 hours.

Steve Elkington is the next best of the Australians in 18th position at 8 under and still well enough placed to make a run at the lead tomorrow.
