Jager leads Macpherson at Aus Amateur

Australia’s top-ranked amateur, Matt Jager, opened his Australian Amateur Championship challenge with a blistering 7-under-par, 65, at Mount Lawley Golf Club to hold a one stroke advantage from defending Australian Stroke champion, Bryden Macpherson.

Victorian Ryan Woodward is in third place following an opening round 4-under-par, 68, at Lake Karrinyup Country Club to hold a one stroke leading margin over a group of three players that are currently tied for fourth place at 3-under par, including local, Brody Ninyette, Queensland’s Brett Rankin and Taipei’s Chi-Hsien Hsieh.

The Australian Stroke Play Championship is contested over 72-holes stroke play with a cut after 36-holes of the top 75 plus ties, once the field has completed a rounds at Mt Lawley Golf Club and Lake Karrinyup Country Club.

The leading 32 players qualify for elimination match play starting Monday at Lake Karrinyup, to determine the Australian Amateur Champion at Wednesday’s final.
