Molder leads rookies in Houston

Bryce Molder has a lot to think about as he contemplates his one shot lead at the Shell Houston Open. A strong weekend at the Redstone Golf Club might well earn him not only his first PGA Tour title but a start at Augusta National next week.
The winner this week not otherwise qualified earns a start at Augusta National next Thursday so for several close to the lead this is potentially a big weekend.
Five birdies in his last eight holes in today’s second round over the Tournament course swept Molder past PGA Tour rookies Cameron Percy and Alex Prugh and at 9 under he has his nose in front. Percy, who shared the lead after his opening round of 67, did well to keep things going today adding a round of 69 to be very much in the hunt.
Prugh was the 2009 New Zealand Open Championship but after a great start to his rookie season has missed his last three cuts although he has clearly found some of that early form once again.
In a share of 4th position at 7 under and just two from the lead is a group of four golfers including two who might just fancy their chances at Augusta next week, Lee Westwood and Anthony Kim. Joe Ogilvie and Percy’s co-first round leader Kevin Stadler are also at 7 under.
Adam Scott is the next best Australian after Percy in 13th position while two time winner Stuart Appleby kept his slim hopes of a Masters start alive with a round of 72 to be at 2 under.
