Beckmann fires at Mandurah

Daniel Beckmann has a liking to the Mandurah layout and the defending champion takes a one stroke lead into the final day of the Mandurah Easter Open in Perth.
Beckmann fired rounds of 70-70 to be at 4-under-par with Jin Jeong and first round leader and Australian Tour player, Dean Alaban, at 3-under-par.
Two emerging players, Patrick Wilson and Matt Stieger, are two behind Beckmann in a tie for 4th position at 2-under, with Jason Scrivener in outright 5th position at 1-under-par.
Last year Beckmann withstood a determined Tim Hart to collect his second National Trial event with a 14-under-par total and a two stroke win after collecting the 2007 Federal Amateur.
Already this season Beckmann’s consistency has provided dividends with top-10 finishes at the Master of the Amateurs and the Tasmanian Open. Runner-up to Scott Arnold last year at the Australian Amateur Championships, Beckmann has the experience and game to secure back to to back wins at Mandurah, however, there are plenty of likely challenges that will press Beckmann for the title.
With 36-holes being played on the final day to determine the championship and eight players within four strokes of the leader, the Mandurah Easter Amateur remains an open affair.
Australian Amateur Champion, Matt Jager, is dangerously positioned just four strokes from Beckmann following even par rounds of 72-72. Jager is in a tie of 7th position along with Max McCardle and Adam Ring. You’ll expect the world number 5 will come out of the blocks strongly for the final 36-holes as he makes his charge to win three events in three starts.
Jason Scrivener is having a strong tournament and can easily make up the three shot deficit in the two rounds around his home course. Jin Jeong just keeps featuring on leader boards lately with wins at the Tasmanian Open and Riversdale Cup already this season. Jeong will certainly take some stopping, as will Matt Stieger as he goes in pursuit of his maiden National Trial win.
The Mandurah Easter Open has unfolded into another great tussle of emerging Australian talent. Throw in there the seasoned journeyman of Dean Alaban, a certain danger man, and the final day is sure to be full of surprises.
