Deagan wins in Papua New Guinea

Victorian golfer Leigh Deagan has won the South Pacific Export Papua New Guinea Open by four shots over Queenslander Andrew Bonhomme and in doing so has secured himself a start at the Japan Golf Tour’s Asian Pacific Panasonic Open in September.

The winner of this event in the last few years has earned a start at the lucrative event on the Japan Golf Tour and the opportunity to advance their career on one of the world’s richest tours.

Deagan, who was the leading trainee professional in Australian golf in 2008 and 2009, appears to have made a smooth transition to the full time playing ranks, this victory the first step in a long road to success in the professional arena.

The tournament was the second of two in Papua New Guinea following last week’s Morobe Open which was won by Heath Reed.

The Sunshine Tour returns to Queensland in two weeks time for the start of its domestic season.
