Andersson Hed breaks through in Italy

Sweden’s Fredrik Andersson Hed has won his first European Tour event with a two shot victory over Englishman David Horsey at the BMW Italian Open in Turin.

The 38 year old from Halmstad established a winning break on the field with his third round of 63 and although he struggled to a final round of 73 he had done enough to hold off his pursuers.

Horsey actually joined the Swede in the lead when he birdied six of his first 13 holes today but bogeys at the 14th and 18th by Horsey cost him any chance of victory and nine consecutive pars to finish secured Andersson Hed his first maiden victory.

Like Andersson Hed, the 25-year-old Horsey was seeking his first victory in Europe and although he let an opportunity go this was his biggest prize in golf and continues what has been a good season for him to date. He has made nine of ten cuts in 2010 and appears to be developing a very successful professional career after an excellent amateur career.

Nicolas Colsaerts, Chris Wood and Peter Gustafsson were tied in third position two behind Horsey while Ignacio Garrido was 6th.

The leading Australian was the recent Ballantines Championship winner, Marcus Fraser, who finished 17th, Scott Hend 32nd, New Zealander mark Brown was 38th and Andrew Dodt 42nd.

The European Tour plays its next event this coming week in Mallorca.
