Fairfax leads Keperra Bowl

Gavin Fairfax fired an 8-under-par, 64, to have a one stroke lead over Cameron Smith after the opening round of the Keperra Bowl at Keperra Country Club, Brisbane.

Jin Jeong, winner of the Riversdale Cup, is 3rd position after opening with a 66 to be at 6-under, a stroke ahead of Luke Bleumink, Master of the Amateurs winner, Jordan Sherratt and the 2007 Lake Macquarie Amateur champion, Blake McGrory.

A group of four players are in a tie for 7th position after opening with a 5-under-par 67, including Brett Rankin, Marika Batibasaga, Brett Monaghan and Peter Iamaris.

Earlier in the week many players predicted that low scoring would dominate the tournament around the 6056 metre, par 72 layout and the scores posted today confirmed as much.

Forty-five players scored par or better with Matt Jager recording a 2-over-par, 74, while Jason Scrivener had an even par round to be in a tie for 46th position.

The cut will be determined following tomorrow’s second round with the the leading 70 players plus ties and National Squad members playing the final two rounds on Thursday and Friday.
