Gavin Fairfax fired a second round 2-under-par 70 to add to his opening round of 64 to be 10-under-par and a one stroke lead over Luke Bleumink at the Keperra Bowl in Brisbane.

A group of four players including Lachlan Cain, Brett Monaghan, Blake McGrory and Jin Jeong are in a share of 3rd position at 8-under-par.

Fairfax finished 4th at this event last year and comes into the Keperra Bowl with a quart-final appearance at last week’s Queensland Amateur. His best finish in main amateur event is a 3rd at the 2009 Queensland Amateur Medal.

2008 Tasmanian Amateur champion, Ryan McCarthy, is in a share of 7th at 7-under-par along with current Queensland Amateur Medal champion, Cameron Smith.

The cut came in at plus 3 with Australia’s number 1 ranked player, Matt Jager, finishing with a 11-over-par. Brendan Smith was another notable to miss the cut finishing at 5-over-par.
