Local Qualifying at more than 50 venues across the USA for next month’s US Open at Pebble Beach in California is underway.

Australians Luke Hickmott and Stuart Deane and New Zealander Phil Tataurangi have already earned the right to advance to Final or Sectional Qualifying to be held over 36 holes on June 7th at 13 sites across the US. Two Final Qualifying international venues will also used in Japan and Britain on May 24th.

Local Qualifying finishes on May 20th. A total of 9,052 entries were received for the event when the final entries closed on April 28th with the actual championship field of 156 to be finalised on June 7th.

Australians already assured of a place in the field include Geoff Ogilvy, Robert Allenby, John Senden, Michael Sim and Marc Leishman with Adam Scott still a chance to avoid Final Qualifying if he can finish inside the top 50 in the world ranking as at May 24th. Scott certainly appears as if he will do just that as he is currently in 43rd position.

New Zealander Michael Campbell is also eligible to play the event but recent indications suggest he is to take a long break from the game.
