LPGA begins 5 week stretch at State Farm

BY Bruce Young | LPGA Tour | 2010 State Farm Classic | Preview | 10 Jun 2010

The LPGA returns to action in Springfield Illinois when the LPGA State Farm Classic is played at the Hale Irwin designed Panther Creek Country Club. The event moved to its current venue in 2007 after 31 years at the Rail Golf Club.

After what has been an intermittent schedule to date in 2010 the LPGA begins a stretch of five consecutive events culminating in the US Womens’ Open at Oakmont starting on July 8th but including also the LPGA Championship in Pittsford on June 24th.

In Kyung Kim is the defending champion following her one shot victory over Se Ri Pak last year.

The world number one Ji Yai Shin is in the field as she looks to hold off challenges for her current position at the top of the female game, a position she has held for six weeks. Ai Miyazato and Yani Tseng are close on her heels and have a chance to close the gap although the third ranked player Suzann Pettersen is not playing this week.

Australians in the field are Karrie Webb. Katherine Hull, Tamie Durdin, Rachel Hetherington, Sarah Kemp, Anna Rawson, Sarah Jane Smith and Lindsey Wright. Wright plays her first event in more than two months.
