Keating's charge at UK Amateur ends

Stacey Keating has been bundled out of the UK Amateur, losing her quarter final match 2 down to Canadian Rebecca Lee Bentham.

The Victorian battled hard all day at Yorkshire’s Ganton Golf Club despite being four down at the turn. She hit back with two wins on holes 11 and 12 but Bentham again extended the lead to three when she won the 14th.

Keating tried hard to snatch the match by retrieving the game to one down after winning back-to-back holes on 15 and 16. The Canadian, however held her nerve to square the 17th to remain 1 up heading down 18. Try as she might Keating just couldn’t quite peg the solid Canadian, losing 2 down on the final hole.

The tournament’s number one seed, Sweden’s Caroline Hedwall, suffered a shock loss in the morning round of 16 match, while Kelly Tidy kept local hopes alive defeating Canada’s number two seed, Sara Junea 3 & 2 to advance to tomorrow’s semi finals.

She will meet Keating’s conqueror, Rebecca Lee Bentham, while the other semi final sees Scotland’s Kelsey MacDonald take on America’s Meghan Stasi.
