LPGA Tour prepares for US Open

BY Bruce Young | LPGA Tour | 2010 Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic | Preview | 01 Jul 2010

With just one week remaining prior to the US Women’s Open being played at the famed Oakmont, the LPGA Tour is in Ohio for this week’s Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic.

The Highland Meadows Golf Club has played home to this event since 1989 although the tournament was played for several years prior at the Glengarry Golf Club in nearby Holland in Ohio. Highlands Meadow is situated just to the north and west of Toledo in an area known as Sylvania.

Eunjung Yi won her first LPGA title in this event twelve months ago when she defeated Morgan Pressel in a playoff. Yi has lost her way in 2010 however missing her last three cuts and never finishing better than 21st in ten events, although to be fair to her she arrived at this event last year amidst a similar run of poor form.

The newly crowned world number one Cristie Kerr and her nearest pursuer in the rankings Ai Miyazato will not start this week preferring instead to prepare their game’s for next week’s major.

In fact only Ji Yai Shin and Angela Stanford from the world top ten are playing this week and in the only occasion Shin has played the event in 2009 she finished well enough. She is the favourite this week and after two third placed finishes in her last two starts she is even more likely.

Australians in the field are Tamie Durdin, Michelle Ellis, Katherine Hull, Sarah Kemp, Anna Rawson and Sarah Jane Smith,
