Beck defends in Brunei
BY Bruce Young | Asian Tour | 2010 Brunei Open | Preview | 28 Jul 2010
32-year-old New South Welshman, Darren Beck, will defend his Brunei Open title this week when he and an Asian Tour field tee it up at the Jack Nicklaus designed Empire Golf and Country Club in Bandar Seri Begawan.
Beck, who is currently in 24th position on the Asian Tour in 2010 but has played only five events, broke through for his maiden Asian Tour victory in this event last year when he survived a three way playoff.
Beck was forced to withdraw from one of those five events with a back problem at the Ballantines Championship in Korea but has done sufficiently well in the bigger co-sanctioned events this season to be in reasonable position on the 2010 Asian Tour money list
Beck will join other Australians including Scott Hend, Adam Blyth, Marcus Both, Scott Barr, Tony Carolan, Terry Pilkadaris, David Gleeson, Gavin Flint, Unho Park and others in the US$300,000 event.
The bulk of the events on the Asian Tour schedule are played in September, October, November and December but this week gives those who have had a forced break over the past six weeks to get their games back in shape for the bigger events ahead.
