Sun Chlorella next for Japan Golf Tour

Following on from last week’s Sega Sammy Cup, the Japan Golf Tour stays in Hokkaido this week for the lucrative Sun Chlorella Classic to the north of Sapporo. The tournament carries a purse of ¥150 million with the winner to collect ¥30 million or (A$380,000).
The event is being played at its home since 2004, the Otaru Country Club, with Ryo Ishikawa looking to defend the title he won last year in what was a gripping final round tussle with Australian Brendan Jones. Ishikawa birdied the final hole to defeat Jones by one shot with Jones three clear of the third placed Yuta Ikeda.
Jones is a previous winner of the event although that victory came in 2003, the year before the event moved from the Sapporo Bay Golf Club. All three are in the field again this week with Ishikawa and Ikeda no doubt heading for the WGC Bridgestone Championship in Ohio next week, Ishikawa as a Presidents Cup team member and Ikeda courtesy of his Bridgestone Open win in Japan last year.
Other Australasians in the field in addition to Jones are Paul Sheehan, David Smail, Wayne Perske, Chris Campbell, Aaron Townsend, Eddie Lee, Craig Parry, Steve Conran, Kurt Barnes and Brad Andrews.
