Julia Boland has qualified for the US Amateur match play finishing in a tie for 14th position.

The 24-year old shot a one over 73 today but was pleased with her two round score of 145 at the Charlotte Country Club in North Carolina.

“Things are going well,” she said.

“It’s a super tough course but we (my caddy Cindy and I) have mapped it out really well and are committing well to our distances and lines.”

Three girls shared the medalist honors, Massachusetts’s Jaclyn Sweeney, Washington’s Erynne Lee and Pennsylvania’s Rachel Rohanna. The overnight leader, Rohanna, couldn’t repeat yesterday’s 7 under round, shooting a two over 74 today.

Australia’s only other entrant, Florida State student Hannah Thomson, missed the cut finishing tied 137th with a two round score of 17 over 161.

The cut for the top 64 players was made at 7 over 151. Six players finished on 7 over and were forced to take to the course again to determine the final spot for the match play. The lucky winner was New Jersey’s Isabel Han.

Tomorrow sees Boland, the 21st seed take on California’s 44th seed Gabriella Then. Boland will be hoping to improve on last year’s US Amateur where she lost in the first round to Illinois’ Brooke Butler.
