Win number five for Miyazato

Ai Miyazato continued her domination of the 2010 LPGA Tour by winning the Safeway Classic at the Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains in Oregon by two shots over Na Yeon Choi and Cristie Kerr.

For the Japanese star it was her fifth win on the LPGA Tour season and takes her back to the top of the money list although interestingly she leads Na Yeon Choi by only US$15,000.

It was Choi’s fourth runner up finish of the season and along with a win and one other third place finish, her greater consistency than Miyazato has kept her in touch with the money leader.

Miyazato began her final round with a three shot lead but a shaky start saw her needing to right the ship over the closing ten holes or so. She was able to do just that starting with birdies at the 9th and 10th and was assisted by a mistake by Kerr at the final hole when the LPGA Champion found the water and took bogey.

The race between Miyazato and the previous leader in the world ranking, Cristie Kerr, intensified with Miyazato moving back past Kerr to head the Rolex Rankings.

The leading Australian was Katherine Hull who finished 29th, Karrie Webb and Lindsey Wright were 55th and Sarah Jane Smith 71st.
