Tanihara wins Japan's KBC

Hideto Tanihara today won his 9th Japan Golf Tour event with a narrow one shot victory over Mitsuhiro Tateyama at the Vana H Cup KBC Augusta event in Fukuoka.

It was Tanihara’s first victory since the Panasonic Open nearly two years ago but in between times he has continued to play well on the Japan Golf Tour.

Tanihara played the PGA Tour for one season in 2005 but, without any real success, he returned to Japan soon after and has won seven events since.

Both Tanihara and runner-up Tateyama bogeyed the final hole in their respective rounds of 66 and 64 today but Tanihara, who played twenty minutes behind the runner-up, had done enough.

Chris Campbell was the leading Australian when he finished in 17thposition, Aaron Townsend was 36th, Steve Conran 40th and Kurt Barnes 50th.

The Japan Golf Tour will now move north for the Fujisankei Classic where Ryo Ishikawa seeks a successful defence of the title he won by five shots last year.
