Japan Tour plays Fujisankei

BY Bruce Young | Japan Tour | 2010 Fujisankei Classic | Preview | 01 Sep 2010

The Fujisankei Classic played at the Fujizakura Golf Club in Yamanashi Prefecture is this week’s event on the Japan Golf Tour. The golf course is located around 100 kilometres south of Tokyo and is played against the backdrop of Mt Fuji in the distance.

The tournament is one of the time honoured events on the Japan Golf Tour although for much of its time as a Japan Golf Tour event it was played at the famed Kawana Golf club’s Fuji Course to the east overlooking Sagami Bay.

Last year Japan’s golden boy Ryo Ishikawa won this event by five shots over Daisuke Maruyama but since his stunning win at the Crowns event earlier in the season when he produced a last round of 58, Ishikawa has been perhaps below his best. He indicated last week in Fukuoka that his form might be returning with a 6th place finish and that he may be on track for a successful defence.

Last week’s winner Hideto Tanihara is also in this week’s field and having won the event in 2007 he stands a good chance of repeating.

Australasians in the field are Craig Parry, Richard Lee, Chris Campbell, Kurt Barnes, Wayne Perske, Paul Sheehan Aaron Townsend, Eddie Lee and Steve Conran.
