With just two week’s remaining for players to qualify for positions on the International and United States Presidents Cup teams Australians Mark Hensby and Stuart Appleby have elevated in the Presidents Cup standings.
Hensby has made a move up to 10th place on the International Standings with fellow Aussie Stuart Appleby moving one spot up into 9th.
Henby’s success at winning the European Tour’s Scandinavian Masters elevated him one place to 11th position. This has proven to be a crucial as he would now be the 10th qualifier due to the withdrawal of Ernie Els who underwent knee surgery last week and will miss the event.
Stuart Appleby has moved up one place to 9th position with fellow Australasians Adam Scott remaining in 4th place, Michael Campbell in 7th and Nick O’Hern in 8th. Peter Lonard is just outside of the top ten placing’s in 12th position.
This week’s USPGA Tour International event could have a bearing on the standings as a number of players sitting on the fringe are entered. Hensby faces competition from South Korea’s K.J Choi in 13th place and Stephen Ames of Trinidad and Tobago (15th) as the trio aim to improve their standings.
The Presidents Cup will be held from September 20-25 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Prince William County, Virginia, USA.
International Team players for the 2005 Presidents Cup will be chosen on the basis of the Official World Golf Ranking. International Teams do not include players eligible for the European Ryder Cup Team. Members of the 2005 U.S. Team will be selected based on official earnings from the start of the 2004 US PGA TOUR season through the 2005 US PGA Championship.
