Victorian golfer Daniel Gaunt, already a winner on the European Challenge Tour this season, is becoming increasingly well placed to secure one of the twenty 2011 European Tour cards available to Challenge Tour graduates in 2010.
Despite a disappointing third round of 73 at the ALLIANZ Europen de Strasbourg-Golf de la Wantzenau in France, the 31 year old finds himself in a share of third position and four shots behind the leader, Lorenzo Gagli.
Six weeks ago Gaunt earned an invite to the and event on the Challenge Tour, the English Challenge, courtesy of his good form on the Euro Tour and took full advantage by winning. In the process he secured the right to play the Challenge Tour for the remainder of the season. He has played three further events adding to his prize-money on each occasion and now sits in 29th position on the money list.
A victory tomorrow would be enough to secure Gaunt of a full European card in 2011 but a high finish would move him closer to the top twenty. With still another six events in 2010, every Euro he earns will assist him in his cause to play the European Tour for the second occasion having first played in 2004.
