A birdie at the final hole of round three at the Deutsche Bank Championship at the TPC of Boston has given 22 year old Jason Day the 54 hole lead in the second of the FedEx Cup Playoff events.
Tied in the lead with playing partner and joint 36 hole leader, Brandt Snedeker, as the pair played the final hole on day three, Day two putted from just off the back edge of the green at the par five to edge one shot clear of Snedeker.
Snedeker kept himself in touch heading into tomorrow’s final round however by holing from short of the green for par after finding the hazard with his second and then pitching short with his 4th.
Day was threatening to put quite a break on the field when he secured his 5th birdie of the day at the 15th to move three ahead. Day recorded his first bogey in 37 holes however when he three putted the par three 16th and when Snedeker birdied that same hole the margin was reduced to one. Snedeker drew level with Day when he again birdied at the 17th and they headed to the last all tied up.
Luke Donald put together a final nine of 30 to be just one behind Snedeker and two from the lead with another two shots back to Charley Hoffman and the defending champion Steve Stricker.
Another four players are at 12 under and not yet out of it including Adam Scott, Geoff Ogilvy, Charlie Wi and Phil Mickelson.
John Senden is the next best of the Australians in 13th position while Michael Sim shares 23rd.
