Leishman makes move at BMW

Having finished runner up in the same event twelve months ago, Victorian Marc Leishman is again well placed for another big week at the BMW Championship at Cog Hill near Chicago.
Leishman’s second round of 65, including three birdies in his last four holes, moved him within one of the joint leaders Charlie Wi and the very much in-form Matt Kuchar. It was a superb effort from the second season PGA Tour player but he will need to maintain the momentum if he is to graduate to the Tour Championship for the second consecutive year.
The round has moved Leishman a massive 37 places into 20th position in the projected FedEx Cup point standings, the top 30 moving on to the Tour Championship in Atlanta in two weeks time.
Kuchar, looking for his second Playoff win in three events to date, lost his way over his closing nine holes today but he had done enough with his opening round of 64 to ensure that even a second round of 72 would not cost him the lead.
Wi threatened to establish a significant 36 hole break before a triple bogey at the par four 16th brought him back to the field. Wi has moved to 2nd position in the live FedEx point scoring table but he too will need to keep the run going if he is to play the Tour Championship for the first occasion.
Sharing 4th position are Ian Poulter, Paul Casey, Luke Donald, Retief Goosen and Dustin Johnson with Casey no doubt keen to make a statement to Colin Montgomerie that he might have erred in his Ryder Cup selection. At 3 under and just three from the lead Justin Rose might have similar thoughts.
Adam Scott is the next best of the Australians after Leishman in 13th position at 2 under while Greg Chalmers and Matt Jones are next at 1 under.
