Many outcomes possible at BMW

Ryan Moore has a narrow one shot lead at the completion of 54 holes at the BMW Championship in Lemont near Chicago. With 13 players within four shots of the lead as the field heads into tomorrow’s final round however there are still many permutations as to the possible winner and to those who graduate to the Tour Championship in two week’s time.

The leading 30 players on the FedEx Cup points table at the completion of this week’s event secure a berth at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta and with the volatility in point distribution, tomorrow’s final round could see an intriguing battle for this title and the right to advance.

Moore added a third round of 66 to edge clear of a group of three players , Dustin Johnson, Charlie Wi and Matt Kuchar with a further shot back to Ian Poulter and Paul Casey.

Moore, one of America’s greatest amateur golfers in the modern era through his victories at the US Amateur, the US Public Links and the Western Amateur and others, is seeking his second victory on the PGA Tour having won his first just over twelve months ago at the Wyndham Championship.

Clearly, though, a win tomorrow for the 27 year old could set him up for a huge payday in Atlanta where US$10 million goes to the player who wins the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Moore has moved a massive 58 places this week in his FedEx Cup standing.

Five birdies in his first ten holes today had him closing in on the leader, Charlie Wi and when Wi bogeyed the 17th late in his round it left Moore alone at the top of the leader-board.

Kuchar retained his position atop the FedEx Cup points race and continued his remarkable consistency while Johnson is seeking redemption for a couple of body blows in recent months at the US Open and the USPGA. Some would say there justice would be served if he was to win tomorrow.

Perhaps one of the most gripping outcomes tomorrow would be if Paul Casey was to win and then go on to win again in Atlanta. It is highly unlikely but certainly not completely out of the question. It might leave Colin Montgomerie being asked questions as to his final three selections for the European Ryder Cup team. It will be no doubt a great motivation for Casey tomorrow.

The leading Australians are Greg Chalmers and Marc Leishman who share 9th position. Both have to make further progress tomorrow if they are to improve from their current 42nd and 46th FedEx Cup positions to a place inside the top 30.

Adam Scott is in 19th position this week after a third round of 72 but in 15th position on the FedEx Cup list he seems assured of graduating to Atlanta where he has won previously.

Robert Allenby, Michael Sim and Matt Jones are in 26th position this week but are in 29th, 47th and 58th positions respectively in FedEx Cup points.

Stuart Appleby is in 46th position (48th FedEx) Jason Day 53rd (7th) and John Senden 64th (52nd).

Only Jason Day, Adam Scott and Geoff Ogilvy seem assured of making it to the Tour Championship therefore although something special tomorrow could still see one or two others sneaking indie the all important top 30. Download the original attachment
