Germany’s Martin Kaymer has made an impressive return to European golf with a four shot victory at the KLM Open at the Hilversumsche Golf Club in Hilversum in the Netherlands, further highlighting his standing in the game.

Currently sharing 5th in the world ranking with Jim Furyk, Kaymer will now move to outright 5th and continue his rapid rise in world golf.

Still only 25 years of age and in his first event back since his dramatic victory at the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits, Kaymer claimed the lead after his third round of 66 and with his nearest chasers stumbling early in the final round he was left alone in front.

He cruised to an emphatic win over Sweden’s Christian Nilsson and Paraguayan Fabrizio Zanotti.

Gonzalo Federez Castano, David Horsey, Jose Manuel Lara and Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen shared 4th position, Oosthuizen staging a strong comeback after what had been a slow start to the tournament.

Brett Rumford was the best of the Australians finishing in 26th position, Scott Strange was 42nd and Peter O’Malley 50th.

The European Tour now heads west to Austria for this week’s Austrian Open in Atzenbrugg.
