Ogilvy sets his sights on Coolum
Australasian PGA Tour | 2010 Australian PGA Championship | 14 Sep 2010
Geoff Ogilvy will return to the site of his only Australian victory to contest the Australian PGA Championship presented by Coca-Cola from December 9.
The 2006 US Open Champion and winner of three World Golf Championship events today confirmed he will head to the Hyatt Regency Coolum on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast where in 2008 he held off playing partner Mathew Goggin in a tense back-nine showdown to claim Australia’s oldest professional title by a shot.
“It’s a really cool place the Hyatt Coolum. I won there a couple of years ago so it’s got a special place in my golfing schedule,” Ogilvy said.
“The Australian PGA is obviously one of Australia’s most historic tournaments and one we can all bring our families to and have a great week.”
“It’s the last week of the year and I would go as far to say that even taking the hyperactive field that the majors have and how cool they are, in one way the PGA at Coolum is probably the most enjoyable golf tournament we play all year.”
“To have the Australian PGA on your mantelpiece is a feather in your cap for sure.”
Ogilvy’s confirmation comes just over a week after he tied for second in the Deutsche Bank Championship, his first top-10 finish since he won the US PGA Tour’s season opening SBS Championship in Hawaii in January.
“At the Deutsche event last week I played really well actually. I hit the ball well, I putted well, I just got outplayed by Charley Hoffman on the last day.”
“The form is pretty good. I had a rough middle of the year but towards the end of the year I’m starting to feel it a little bit and starting to look forward to playing golf again, so positive signs ahead.”
The 2010 Australian PGA Championship presented by Coca-Cola will be played at the Hyatt Regency Coolum on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast from December 9-12, 2010.
Ogilvy joins defending champion Robert Allenby and American John Daly who have previously announced that they will contest the Australian PGA Championship.
The Australian PGA Championship will be the final tournament on both the PGA Tour of Australasia and OneAsia Order of Merit, with players competing for a total prize pool of AUD$1,500,000.
The tournament will be showcased on OneAsia’s television platform with live coverage for four hours a day across all four tournament days, and broadcast to over 260 million homes in more than 40 countries.
Full coverage of the event will be available domestically on Network Ten, as well as internationally on ESPN Star Sports, Jupiter Golf Network, SBS Golf Channel, Fox International, Sky Sports NZ, ESPN3 & America One in the USA, ViaSat & Bloomberg Television among others in Europe.
