Draw gives QLD the Interstate lead

Victoria’s upset 5 matches to 3 win over Western Australia has given Queensland a narrow lead heading into tomorrow’s final round of the Interstate Team Matches Championship.

Western Australia headed into the day in the box seat, undefeated and leading Queensland by 1 ½ games. But they will be disappointed with their loss today, particularly after losing two of the morning foursomes matches 1 down.

In the afternoon the Victorians were just too strong with the top three, Stacey Keating, Breanna Elliott and Elissa Orr all taking the spoils at the McLeod Golf Club in Queensland.

Meanwhile, the Queenslanders had to fight hard to remain unbeaten in their draw against New South Wales. Despite leading 2-1 after the morning foursomes, they were unable to put their southern cousins away in the afternoon singles matches.

New South Wales secured three of the five afternoon games, however the 4-4 result was enough to give Queensland a ½ point lead heading into their match against the second placed West Australians tomorrow.

While the duel for the Gladys Hay Memorial Cup will be hotly contested, South Australia all but ensured Tasmania would go home with the wooden spoon after defeating the Apple Isle team 7 matches to 1.

Only an unlikely comprehensive victory over New South Wales tomorrow will lift the Tasmanians from the bottom of the ladder.

In order to take the trophy west tomorrow the West Australian girls will need to defeat Queensland, while the home team need only secure a draw to win the Cup they last captured in 2007.
