Presnell shares second in Texas

Victorian golfer Alistair Presnell has reversed some indifferent recent form with a final round of 65 at the WNB Classic in Midland in Texas and in sharing second position he has advanced his cause considerably in the quest for 2011 PGA Tour status.
With a run of five consecutive missed cuts Presnell had slipped to 39th position on the 2010 Nationwide Tour money list prior to this week but the US$39,200 he earned for finishing joint second this week has improved him 15 places and at number 24 he now sits inside the all important top 25.
The leading 25 players at season’s end earn the right to play the PGA Tour in 2011 and provided he can finish off the last five events well Presnell has a great chance of playing the PGA Tour for the first time next year. His job is by no means done but at least he is moving in the right direction.
Earlier this season Presnell displayed just what we might expect if and when he makes it to the higher level by finishing 6th against the leading players in the world at the WGC event at Doral.
The winner of this week’s event was Nationwide Tour rookie Nathan Smith, a former Duke University graduate and Challenge and European Tour player. The Californian has moved to 25th on this season’s money list.
Sharing third with Presnell were Fabian Gomez and Brandt Jobe, the latter of whom bogeyed the last to cost him a chance in a playoff with Smith.
The Nationwide Tour now moves west to San Jacinto in California for this week’s Soboba Classic.
