Haas' Viking win makes it two in 2010

Bill Haas has captured his second title of 2010 and the second of his PGA Tour career with an impressive three shot victory over the 51 year old Michael Allen at the Viking Classic in Madison in Mississippi.

Haas began his final round with a bogey and it developed into a roller coaster throughout with five birdies and five bogeys. He was joined in the lead by Allen through 12 holes but when Allen double bogeyed the 13th he was back in front for good.

He eventually cruised to the comfortable lead allowing him to take time to enjoy the victory a little more than the narrow one shot victory he had over Matt Kuchar, Tim Clark and Bubba Watson that he had at the Bob Hope earlier in the season.

The win takes Haas to 26th on the money list with earnings of nearly US$2.5 million, a million more than his previous best season in 2009.

Allen who is currently mixing his golf between the PGA and Champions Tour is now playing some of the best golf in the latter half of his career. He has made more than US$700,000 on both Tours this season and seems assured of making a lot more on the Champions Tour in the years to come.

John Senden and Nathan Green tied as the leading Australians in a share of 11th. Green was in contention for much of the week before a poor finish to his third round and a disappointing 75 today cost him dearly.

Mathew Goggin tied for 17th earning his second biggest cheque for the season and moved a few places to 153rd on the money list. The Tasmanian needs something special over the next few weeks if he is to retain his playing privileges on the PGA Tour.

Steve Elkington was next best of the Australasians this week in 36th place.

The PGA Tour now moves to Sea Island in Georgia for the inaugural McGladrey Classic.
