Poor weather conditions with torrential rain and lightning has seen the Australian team of Matt Jager, Kieran Pratt and Bryden Macpherson slip from its opening round 6th place, to currently be in 11th position and ten strokes behind current second round leaders, Denmark, at the World Amateur Team Championships in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The second day was hampered with delays and suspensions because of dangerous weather conditions with only 35 of the 69 in the field able the complete their round.

Australia was one of the teams left on the course, implying they will have to complete their second round tomorrow. At the time of play being suspended, Kieran Pratt was at 3-over-par after nine, along with Matt Jager at 2-over-par. Bryden Macpherson’s woes at these championships continued with him carding a 5-over-par opening first nine after opening yesterday with a 10-over-par 82.

Jager was the best of the Aussies during the first round opening with a 1-under-par, with Kieran Pratt at even-par.

The Danish team were among the teams in the field to complete their second round. With a 6-under-par total, Denmark hold a lead over two teams that did not finish. Canada at 5-under-par through three holes and first-day leader France at 3-under-par through nine holes. Sweden is in 4th position at 2-under-par followed by England and the USA at 1-under-par and in a tie for 5th position.

Following completion of the second round the cut will be made with the leading teams playing at Buenos Aires Golf Club.

The championship is now reduced to 54 holes and will conclude on Sunday.

The USA jumped to a tie for fifth position at 1-under-par on the scores of David Chung (70) and Peter Uihlein (72), who were 2010 US Amateur finalists. The USA are followed by New Zealand who are having a stellar tournament to be currently in 7th place at even par.

New Zealand’s Ben Campbell is playing superb golf and is currently in a tie for 2nd place in the individual standings at 4-under-par with two sub-par rounds of 69-70, just three behind leader, Denmark’s, Joachim Hansen.

Campbell was finalist this year at the Australian Amateur against Matt Jager, won the Tauranga Open in New Zealand and made the match play segment of the British Amateur. A tremendous talent, Campbell’s focus in developing his game in the US is paying off as the Kiwi shows why he’s one of the hottest talents on the world amateur stage.

Matt Jager is the best of the Aussies currently in a tie for 17th having only completed his opening nine in his second round before play was suspended.
