Shin back to winning ways at Mizuno

Korean golfer, Ji Yai Shin, recently returned to the top of the Rolex World rankings and today she provided further evidence of just why when she held off a spirited last round challenge from Yani Tseng to win to win the LPGA and JLPGA Tour’s Mizuno Classic in Shima-Shi in Japan.

The 22 year old Shin led by two entering today’s third and final round but Tseng birdied six of her first eleven holes to draw level before Shin birdied the 13th and 16th to drew clear once again.

American Stacey Lewis finished one shot further back and alone in third position.

It was Shin’s second win in this event, having won in 2008, her second win of the 2010 season on the LPGA Tour and her 8th LPGA Tour title overall since breaking through for her first at the 2008 Women’s British Open.

The US$180,000 first prize cheque has allowed Shin to move within just US$3,500 of the current money list leader Ne Yeon Choi. Choi finished in a share of 5th this week.

Earlier in the season Shin won the lucrative Evian Masters and won events on the Japan Ladies and Korean LPGA Tours.

The leading Australians were former winner, Karrie Webb, and Katherine Hull who finished in a share of 8th position.

Webb shared last day honours with a round of 65 equalling that of Brittany Lincicome, Inbee Park and Ji-Hee Lee.
