Australian challenge ends at US Amateur

Both Michael Sim and David Lutterus have bowed out of the US Amateur following their second round losses today. Sim went down to Matthew Swan at the first extra hole while Lutterus was beaten by Kevin Chappell 4 & 2.

Neither player was ahead in their matches at any stage although in the Sim match there was never more than one hole in it. A birdie at the first extra hole saw Sim's chance disappear and the University of Alabama recruit Swan moved through to the third round where he was in turn beaten.

Lutterus lost the first hole in his match against Chappell and although he stayed close to the UCLA sophomore through the first nine holes, Chappell drew away to win at the 16th hole. Chappell would also go on to lose in the third round.
