She might have made a shaky start to her second round at the HSBC Champions event in Singapore, but four hours later first round leader, Chie Arimura of Japan, had the 36 hole lead by two over Australian Karrie Webb.
Arimura bogeyed two of her first three holes at the Tanah Merah Country Club but bounced back with five birdies and an eagle for her round of 66 and the lead. The 23 year old Arimura has been a prolific winner in Japan but she has now created a great opportunity to gain access to the LPGA Tour with a victory this week.
Webb continued the form that saw her finish in a share of third last week in Thailand. She battled through her first eight holes today but an eagle at the 9th seemed to kick start things for the Queenslander. She played her last nine holes in three under and moved within two of the leader.
Korea’s Yoo Sun Young is next at 6 under and alone in third position with England’s Karen Stupples in a share of 4th at 4 under with Korean Na Yeon Choi and six behind the leader.
Pre tournament favourite, Yani Tseng, is at 2 under and shares 8th position while her nearest chaser in the world ranking, Jiyai Shin, is one shot further back.
The only two other Australians aside from Webb are Katherine Hull and Lindsey Wright who are tied in 21st position but 11 shots behind Arimura.
