Can Colombia provide another Aussie win

BY Bruce Young | Nationwide Tour | 2011 Pacific Rubiales Bogota Open Presented by Samsung | Preview | 01 Mar 2011

The Nationwide Tour is in Colombia this week for the second staging off the Pacific Rubiales Bogota Open Presented by Samsung and continuing on from last week’s victory by Mathew Goggin, a lengthy list of Australasians are lining up in their attempt to make it two in a row for the down under brigade.

Goggin himself will be keen to continue on his winning ways and if he was able to do so then a return to the PGA Tour in 2012 is almost assured. The US$ 108,000 would move him to US$207,000 and within perhaps US$15,000 of where he needs to be by years’ end.

Goggin will be joined by fellow Australians Steve Alker, Adam Blyth, Andrew Buckle, Gavin Coles, Stephen Dartnall, Nick Flanagan, Scott Gardiner, Matthew Giles, Josh Geary, Mark Hensby, Brad Iles, Danny Lee, Won Joon Lee, Peter Lonard, David Lutterus, Ewan Porter, Alistair Presnell, Tim Wilkinson and Jake Younan-Wise.

South Australian Adam Bland is another although he waits on the sidelines for his chance.

Twelve months ago 49 year old Steve Pate won the inaugural staging of the event and he will defend his title this week. Andrew Buckle did the best of the Australians last year when he finished 6th.
