Dustin Johnson has the lead heading into tomorrow’s final round of the WGC-Cadillac Championship at the TPC Blue Monster at Doral Resort & Spa near Miami but as many as 13 players are within five shots ensuring a great battle for the second World Golf Championship of 2011.
Johnson was left in the lead when Nick Watney double bogeyed his final hole after finding the water in round three and long time leader, Hunter Mahan, faltered over the closing stages following a great start to today’s third round.
Johnson’s ‘best round of the day’ 65 included a final nine holes of 31 and he now leads by two over Watney, Luke Donald and Matt Kuchar. Hunter Mahan, Rory McIlroy, Adam Scott and Francesco Molinari are one shot further back.
Donald is poised to win his second consecutive World Golf Championship event having claimed the Accenture Match Play two weeks ago.
Amongst the group of three players at 10 under and three behind Johnson’s lead is Australian Scott who continues his progress with the long putter. Scott’s putting matched his ball striking today and his round of 68 has him within striking distance of his 8th official PGA Tour victory.
Aaron Baddeley 16th and Robert Allenby 26th are the next best of the Australians
