A sponsorship deal from land developer the Roadcon Group has guaranteed the staging of the Queensland Open Golf Championship for 2005.

The Roadcon Group Queensland Open will be played at Ipswich Golf Club from 3 to 6 November 2005, with prize money of $105,000. This event is also considered to be an integral part of the Von Nida Tour schedule.

Ken Delany Ipswich Golf Club President said “he was pleased to welcome the Roadcon Group as the naming rights sponsor for the Queensland Open Golf Championship which is now an integral part of the Club’s golfing calendar.”

“We are delighted to be associated with the Queensland Golf Union, the PGA of Australia, and the Ipswich City Council in staging this year’s championship at the Ipswich Golf Club” Roadcon Group Managing Director Mr Andre Agterhuis said.

Mayor of Ipswich Cr Paul Pisasale said “We have continued to back this event because we want to build on the city’s sporting reputation and provide a further economic boost for the city.”

The 2005 Roadcon Group Queensland Open Golf Championship has received a financial boost with $25,000 in funding provided under round eight of the Queensland Events Regional Development Scheme.

The program is a State Government initiative designed to take unique and creative events to their full potential in order to increase local economic activity and development. Telstra Country Wide has partnered with the program, enabling additional events to receive funding assistance across the state.

Event organisers are now waiting for confirmation that last year’s winner Steven Bowditch will be returning to Australia to defend his title. This victory was a stepping stone for a successful summer of golf for Steven as his Queensland Open win gave him a start in the Hillross Australian Open where he finished third. He then went on to finish 4th in the Mastercard Australian Masters which was followed by a win in February 2005 at the Jacob’s Creek Tournament in Adelaide.
