Precocious New Zealand talent, Lydia Ko, leads at the halfway point of the Australian Women’s Stroke-play Championship at the Huntingdale Golf Club in South Oakleigh in Victoria.

The 13 year old from the Pupuke Golf Club in Auckland and who became a New Zealand citizen in early 2010, has produced some outstanding results in significant tournament s in recent weeks. Ko finished runner-up to Caroline Hedwall at the Women’s NSW Open, finished as the leading amateur at the Women’s Australian and Women’s New Zealand Opens and a week ago finished runner-up at the Riversdale Cup.

Ko is well placed to follow in the footsteps of her fellow countrywoman, Cecilia Cho, who won this title twelve months ago.

Ko leads by one over West Australian golfer, Minjee Lee whose round of 67 was the best of the day by four shots. Lee is another teenage talent, last year becoming the youngest ever winner of the West Australian Amateur title at the age of 14. Lee, from the Royal Freemantle Golf Club south of Perth won the Greg Norman Junior Masters title late in 2010.

New Zealander Cecilia Cho, Swiss Fabienne In-Albon and Chines Taipei’s Yi Chen Liu are tied in third position at 1 over and four behind Ko’s lead.
