Ogilvy and Scott in mix again

Seven players share the 36 hole lead at the Valero Texas Open, the strong winds that buffeted the TPC San Antonio layout ensuring that no player could establish a clear advantage.
The line-up of leaders is an eclectic mix. 2002 PGA Champion Rich Beem, 2006 US Open Champion Geoff Oglivy, 2002 Accenture Match Play Champion Kevin Sutherland, Brandt Snedeker, Charley Hoffman and rookies Kevin Chappell and Brendan Steele are all at 3 under and lead by one over another group including last week’s Masters runner-up Adam Scott.
Ogilvy is playing this layout for the first time this week but comes off a great week at Augusta National. “Today par is a great score,” he said after his round. “I think anyone who shoots par is not going to be treading water, probably going to be moving forward today. Someone might shoot 3, 4-under. Someone always does. Par is going to be a pretty good score though.”
Scott followed up his best ever performance in a major championship last week with a great start to the defence of his title. His round of 74 today was not great but it did little damage and just one behind he is a real threat to back up last week’s heroics and successfully defend.
It is completely different (to yesterday), said Scott. “It was hardly even blowing then. It was perfect yesterday, beautiful day for golf. This course is very difficult around the greens anyway and when that bit of control that you do have is taken away, it’s, you know, magnified by the severity of these greens.”
Nick O’Hern, Jarrod Lyle and John Senden are in 29th place but only four shots from the lead.
