Hart, Higginbottom in QLD Am Final

Tim Hart will be seeking to go one better than his efforts at the Queensland Amateur championship last year when he meets Jake Higginbottom in the 36-hole championship final at Arundel Hills.

In yesterday’s semi-final Hart accounted for Medalist and number one seed, Daniel McGraw 2&1.

Hart was a finalist last year in this event where he lost to Brett Drewitt, 1-up, at Pacific Harbour Golf and Country Club.

A recent win at the Federal Amateur elevated Hart from the perennial “bridesmaid” position of Australian Amateur golf following runner-up finishes at the 2009 Mandurah Easter Amateur, the 2008 NSW Amateur Championship, the 2009 Federal Amateur, 2009 Victorian Amateur and the 2010 Port Phillip Amateur.

In making his way to the final Hart accounted in the earlier rounds for Jonathon Holder, 2-up, and Aaron Wilkin, 2-up.

Jake Higginbottom pulled out all his stops during yesterday’s semi-final to eliminate one of the tournament favourites, current Australian Amateur Stroke and Boy’s champion, Cameron Smith, 3&2, to set his final’s berth against Hart.

Higginbottom already has the New South Wales Amateur title to his credit when in 2010 he defeated England’s Tommy Fleetwood with a 3&2 victory today at Royal Sydney Golf Club.

Higginbottom in progressing to the final at Arundel Hills in earlier rounds defeated Dimitrios Papadatos, 1-up, in their quarter-final and Adam Mollis, 9&8, in the first round.
