Slappendel on top at Keperra after round
Queensland Mens Tour | 2011 Keperra Bowl | Round One | 10 May 2011
Newcastle member Steven Slappendel has shot to the top of the Keperra Bowl, carding a fantastic 8-under par 64 at Keperra Country Golf Club in Brisbane.
Slappendel produced a fantastic opening round which featured eight birdies and one eagle. Unfortunately Slappendel did manage to include two bogies in his round.
Almost as impressive was Queensland State Team member Marika Batisbasaga (Indooroopilly), who sits one shot behind Slappendel following a flawless 7-under par 65.
Last week’s Queensland Amateur Champion Jake Higginbottom is a further two strokes back in equal third place with fellow New South Wales team member Daniel Bringolf, both player fired impressive rounds of 5-under par 67.
The morning field enjoyed the best of today’s conditions as blustery winds were common on the course in the afternoon.
In all, 27 players returned scores under par on day one.
The top 70 players plus ties will make the 36-hole cut following the conclusion of tomorrow’s second round. Day two of the Keperra Bowl tees off from 06.30am tomorrow morning.
