The round robin series is over at the Volvo World Match Play at the Finca Cortesin Golf Club in Andalucia in Spain and now the 16 players who have made it through to the Round of 16 from the original field of 24 will face off over 18 hole knock out matches.
The Round of 16 matches will see Seung yul Noh take on Alvaro Quiros; Martin Kaymer against Soren Kjeldsen; Ross Fisher plays Charl Schwartzel; Luke Donald plays Johan Edfors; Jhonattan Vegas against Nicolas Colsaerts; Graeme McDowell plays Rory McIlroy; Aaron Baddeley tackles Francesco Molinari and Lee Westwood is pitted against Ian Poulter.
Just for making it this far players are guaranteed €90,000 with those making it through to the Quarter Final guaranteed €115,000, to the semi €220,000, to the final €420,000 and to the winner €800,000.
Amongst the notables knocked following the opening two rounds of Round Robin matches were Paul Casey, Louis Oosthuizen and Retief Goosen and Miguel Angel Jimenez. Jimenez could be described as the unlucky loser as he bowed out at the first extra hole of a playoff to determine who would advance between he, Charl Shwartzel and Johan Edfors from their group of three after all had been tied on two points. Jimenez bogeyed the first extra hole and was gone.
After winning his morning match against Anders Hansen, Aaron Baddeley was always behind in his afternoon encounter against the world number one Lee Westwood. Westwood won four consecutive holes in the middle of his round to put the outcome beyond doubt and although Baddeley staged a late rally the task was too great.
Baddeley plays the Italian Francesco Molinari who led his group against Ian Poulter and Paul Lawrie.
