Goggin guarantees return to PGA Tour

Mathew Goggin has won the Preferred Health Systems Wichita Open, a birdie at 72nd hole enough to secure his second win of the Nationwide Tour season and guarantee a place on the PGA Tour in 2012.

It might yet be that Goggin is on that Tour even earlier as one more victory will secure him a Battlefield promotion made available to the winner of three titles in any one season.

Goggin recorded 24 birdies for the week and held off his closest 54 hole rival Kyle Thompson to win by one. Thompson had won last week’s Rex Hospital Open in Raleigh and as a result will move to number two on the money list behind Goggin although a distant second.

New Zealander Josh Geary followed up his recent good form with a 7th place finish to be the next best Australasian. Geary finished 8th in last week’s Rex Hospital Open and appears to be finding his feet on the Nationwide Tour.

Geary’s Fellow New Zealander Steve Alker produced his best Nationwide Tour finish in nearly two and a half years when he finished 11th after a round of 69 which included a double bogey.

Cameron Percy, Mark Hensby and Peter Lonard finished 20th with Lonard showing some encouraging signs during the week.
