New Zealand’s Michael Campbell and Ireland’s Paul McGinley will face off in the 2005 HSBC World Match Play Championship Final on Sunday with a Ł1million first prize awaiting the winner.

Campbell, the US Open champion, will start as favourite tomorrow after crushing South Africa’s Retief Goosen 7 & 6 in their surprisingly one-sided semi-final.

Number one seed Goosen struggled from the outset and Campbell’s triumph now puts him in a strong position to overhaul the World Number 5 in this year’s European Tour Order of Merit.

Spurred on by a vociferous Irish contingent amongst the galleries, Ryder Cup star McGinley also dominated his semi-final against Argentina’s Angel Cabrera to win 4 & 3 and keep alive his hopes of a dream debut in the competition.

38-year-old McGinley, who was edged out by Cabrera at the BMW Championship held over the same West Course earlier this year, exacted revenge and upset the form book by seeing off the number two seed.
