Late birdie keeps Simpson in front

Overnight leader Gary Simpson produced a birdie on the final hole of the day to post a -3 (69) and one stroke ahead of the field at the close of the second round of the $100,000 Victorian PGA Championship.
Simpson, who hails from South Australia, leads Queenslander Wayne Perske (68), Craig Jones (66) and Adam Fraser (67) who all closed at -8 at the Kew Golf Club in Melbourne.
Jones threatened to snatch the lead from Simpson after firing a superb 29 on the front nine. Scott Laycock and Scott Strange both shot -5 (67) to share fifth place, two shots from the lead.
