US Women's Open gets behind schedule

Play has been called for the day at the 2011 US Women’s Open at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, darkness forcing the players from the course at 8.25 Mountain Time. Play had been suspended at just after 6.00pm as thunderstorm activity entered the area but recommenced just over an hour later.
When the officials finally called a halt to proceedings, Korea’s In Kyung Kim had the lead by two over Stacy Lewis, Wendy Ward and amateur golfer May Anderson although Anderson had yet to even start her second round.
When play was suspended for the threatening weather a little earlier, Lewis had the lead but on her return to the course she dropped two shots and left the way open for Kim to move ahead.
The group in 5th position and one shot further back includes Paula Creamer and Australia’s Karrie Webb who will not get to even start her second round until Saturday morning. Webb produced a solid finish to her opening round yesterday with a back nine of 33 for a round of 70.
The four other Australians in the field are languishing however. Lindsey Wright opened with a round of 66 but has yet to start round two.
Sarah Jane Smith finished with a second round of 77 to be at 9 over although that could yet make it to the final 36 holes dependant on how conditions are tomorrow morning. Katherine Hull and Sarah Kemp will miss the cut however.
