Nationwide Tour in Utah
BY Bruce Young | Nationwide Tour | 2011 Utah Championship | Preview | 28 Jul 2011
The Willow Creek Country Club in Sandy in Utah will this week play host to the Utah Championship as it has done so since 1999.
Only Troy Kelly and Kyle Reifers from the top five money list positions are in the field this week, reflecting a desire by the other three players not present to recharge the batteries given they have now all but assured themselves PGA Tour status in 2012.
Mathew Goggin, who comfortably leads the money list race and is in the invidious position of being able to take the week off and still retain that lead, is not playing.
Danny Lee is however. The New Zealander is currently the only other Australasian player inside the all important top 25 although he has dropped several places in recent weeks.
Another New Zealander Bradley Iles finished joint runner-up in this event last year but although he has played some good individual rounds this season he needs to finish tournaments off a little better.
Peter Lonard is back from his two weeks on the PGA Tour. He went close to winning the Viking Classic in Mississippi and then made the cut last week at the Canadian Open but now he focuses on the weeks ahead on the Nationwide Tour. His game is coming around however and perhaps he can further build on the form and confidence he gained during his brief sojourn to the PGA Tour.
